Matt Connery's 2nd Marathon

On Sunday 13th April 2008, Leech & Co Partner; Matthew Connery, managed to complete the London Marathon for the 2nd successive year in a time of 4 hours and 48 minutes. In that time, he managed to get sunburnt, snowed on and soaking wet in torrential rain and for the last hour or so he suffered with cramps in both legs and massive blisters on both feet.

Matt has raised nearly £2,000.00 for CLIC Sargent (a charity supporting children with terminal cancer) through the generosity of family friends and the staff.

If you anybody hasn’t yet made a donation, but would like to, here is the link to the website - http://www.justgiving.com/matthewconnery If you know of anyone who would like to make a donation to the charity, please forward this link to them.

Leech & Co Run the Manchester 10K

The Leech & Co runners have doubled from a relatively modest 7 at last year’s Great Manchester Run.

On Sunday 18th May 14 members of the Manchester office will line up for the 6th BUPA Great Manchester Run. The 10km (6.2 mile) course takes in famous local landmarks such as the Imperial War Museum and Manchester United’s Old Trafford football stadium and this year Leech & Co have nominated the Parkinson’s Disease Society as it’s chosen charity.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological condition affecting movement which occurs as a result of lost nerve cells in the brain and affects 120,000 people in the UK. This prevents messages being sent to the parts of the brain that co-ordinate movement. There is currently no cure for Parkinson’s disease and the cause of the disease is unknown. Of the 10,000 who are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease each year 1 in 20 people are under 40 years old.

As there is no cure for Parkinson’s disease, drugs are used to control the symptoms. A significant amount of research is needed to develop new and improved drug therapies to help manage Parkinson’s.
